ePost service enables people to send and receive messages or scanned images through email in all 1,56,000 Post Offices in the country. For the first time in the country, people who would not normally have access to internet would be able to send and receive email messages without possessing an email id thereby bridging the digital divide in the arena of public communication systems. The advent of ePost is a turning point in the transformation of the Department of Posts into a modern, technology driven provider of communication services to the people of India.

How is an ePost booked ?

The ePost can be booked in two ways :

Booking from a Post office :

  • Customer to bring a hand written or printed message of any languange to a Post Office. The message can also be handed over in a floopy, ensuring that the floopy is virus free.
  • The Message may be in text format or picture or both.
  • Any number of pages can be booked however, no page should be more than A4 in size (8.27" X 11.69")
  • The name and address, with PIN code, of the addressee(s) and sender should be clearly and legibly written on top of the message. Message can be sent to Postal addresses in India only.

Booking from Customer's Home/Office :

  • Customer can buy an ePost prepaid cash card, from any selected Post Office or other outlets,  which is available in denomination of Rs.500 and Rs.1000.
  • Customers can access the ePost portal indiapost.nic.in   and register as a user. Once registerted he of she can sent an ePost message by following the online instructions.

What are the features of ePost ?

An ePost message can be sent simultaneously to upto 9999 addresses in one go. An address book can be created for this purpose and this can be used later on also. ePost messages can be sent to any postal addressee(s) in India and email ID(s) anywhere in the world.

What is the tariff for booking the ePost article ?

The tariff, at present is Rs.10 per A4 size page per addressee. Payment can be made only in cash or through ePost cash cards.

Can ePost message be sent to India from abroad ?     

Yes. The ePost portal can be accessed on the internet from any where in the world. The sender, however, has to pay by using the ePost cash card. Anyone in India can open the account for the sender and recharge it from time to time. If the sender has the password, he can access the account, and send ePost messages to any postal address in India. The charge remain the same, Rs.10 per A4 size message.

Can ePost be used for business purpose ?

Yes, indeed. Since ePost allows sending messages to multiple addresses from the office computer itself, it eliminates the need for paper and envelope and also the effort and expense involved in printing, folding, inserting, stamping/franking and mailing the articles. Therefore, ePost has been found to be very convenient and cost effective. Some of the business uses of ePost are :

  • Sending notices of meetings/minutes/decisions etc. to shareholders, especially as the same message can be sent to 9999 addresses simultaneously, and an address book can be created and used for this.
  • Sending periodic bills and statements to customers.
  • For collecting internal control statements etc.
  • For advertising to a list of customers, suppliers and
  • For internal communication with offices soread out geographically.

Even within the email user groups, it is not unusual to find that many recipients either don't open their inbox regularly or tend to find it tedious to remember the contents of emails for follow up etc. Many organization, therefore, like to combine sending emails with sending ePost to ensure better response.
